COLOMBO – August 25, 2026 – Lotus Hydro Power PLC (CSE: LOHP), a prominent player in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, has published its Annual Report for the financial year ended March 31, 2026. Titled “RESHAPING THE FUTURE: Rising from the Torrent. Rebuilt in Resilience. Turning the Hardest Lessons into the Strongest Foundations,” the report, released on August 24, 2026, details a period marked by significant operational challenges, notably the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, yet underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainable energy generation and strategic growth.
Financial Performance Reflects Climatic and Economic Headwinds
The 2025/26 financial year presented considerable obstacles, leading to a notable decline in key financial indicators. Group revenue stood at Rs. 198.6 million, marking a 22.87% decrease from the Rs. 257.4 million recorded in the preceding year (FY 2024/25). This reduction was primarily attributed to operational downtime caused by Cyclone Ditwah, periods of lower-than-average rainfall, and a significant drop in interest income from the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Profit After Tax (PAT) for the year was Rs. 12 million, down from Rs. 88 million in FY 2024/25. Despite these pressures, Lotus Hydro Power PLC maintained a robust balance sheet, concluding the year with zero debt and total assets of Rs. 826 million. The net asset value per share remained healthy at Rs. 6.13, highlighting the underlying strength of its asset base.
Operational Resilience Amidst Extreme Weather Events
Lotus Hydro Power PLC’s four operational plants – Sanquhar, Delta, Stellenberg, and Thebuwana – collectively generated 15.35 GWh (15,349,013 kWh) of electricity. This output represents a marginal decrease of just 48,441 kWh compared to the previous financial year, a testament to the company’s operational efficiency and resilience in the face of adverse climatic conditions. The report details the significant impact of Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025, which affected three of the company’s principal hydropower plants in Rathnapura, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya regions.
The company demonstrated strong adaptive capacity by undertaking internal technical rectification works to repair damaged infrastructure post-cyclone. This strategy resulted in estimated cost savings of Rs. 3.2 million to Rs. 3.8 million, simultaneously strengthening the in-house engineering expertise of its workforce. The Sanquhar and Stellenberg plants resumed operations within the financial year, while repairs at the Delta plant were completed by June 2026, enabling its recommencement of commercial operations.
Key operational highlights for the year include:
- Total Electricity Generation: 15.35 GWh
- Total kW Installed: 4,900 kW
- CO2 Avoided: Approximately 60,527 Tons
- Number of Employees: 51
- Zero major injuries and no workdays lost due to accidents reported during the financial year.
Strategic Outlook and Commitment to a Greener Grid
Looking ahead, Lotus Hydro Power PLC is focused on strengthening climate resilience across its sites and improving asset performance. The company is evaluating targeted investments in protective infrastructure at vulnerable locations to mitigate future extreme weather risks. Furthermore, it continues to assess selective growth opportunities within the renewable energy sector, including the proposed Halgranoya Hydro Power Project and potential diversification into solar energy, aligning with national clean energy objectives.
The Chairman, G D Seaton, affirmed, “The transition to a greener grid is inevitable, and Lotus Hydro Power PLC remains well-positioned as a reliable, debt-free, and operationally robust partner in this journey.”
Strong Governance and Leadership Enhancements
The company maintains a strong corporate governance framework, emphasizing integrity and transparency. The financial year saw new appointments to the Board of Directors, including Mr. Mayura Fernando as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director and Dr. Rohantha Athukorala as Independent Non-Executive Director, whose expertise is expected to be invaluable for future growth. The Board also acknowledged the dedicated service of Mr. Indrajith Fernando, who resigned during the year.
Lotus Hydro Power PLC’s vision is “To be a valuable stakeholder in the Sri Lankan Renewable Energy Industry by supplying green energy while safeguarding the environment,” underpinned by values of accountability, integrity, passion, responsibility, innovation, and quality.
The Annual Report 2025/26 details the company’s delivery of value, business operations, organizational structure, and comprehensive disclosures on corporate governance, risk management, human capital, environmental capital, and social and relationship capital, aligning with Sri Lanka Sustainability Disclosure Standards (SLSD) and contributing to relevant United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
