The construction of the company’s 10MW Ranna Solar Power Project has been successfully completed, and the plant is now fully prepared for commercial operation.
This update, conveyed to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) by Managers & Secretaries (Private) Limited on behalf of Vidullanka PLC, signals a substantial advancement in the nation’s efforts to expand its sustainable energy infrastructure.
Strategic Investment and Partnership
The Ranna Solar Power Project is owned and developed by DPV Solar Energy (Pvt) Limited, a strategic joint venture where Vidullanka PLC holds a 50% equity interest. This collaboration with the renowned David Peiris Group has seen a substantial investment of Rs. 1.8 billion towards the project’s development, underscoring both entities’ commitment to renewable energy.
Awaiting Grid Interconnection for Full Commissioning
While the physical construction is complete and the plant is operationally ready, the project is currently awaiting a crucial final step. Electricity Distribution (Pvt) Ltd (EDL), which operates as the surviving distribution entity under Sri Lanka’s unbundled utility framework, is expected to energize the newly constructed grid interconnection line. This energization is a prerequisite for the project to proceed to its final testing and commissioning phases.
Upon successful energization of the line by EDL, Vidullanka PLC anticipates the swift completion of these final tests, after which the Ranna Solar Power Project will commence commercial generation, supplying clean and reliable energy to the national grid.
Boosting Sri Lanka’s Renewable Energy Portfolio
Once fully commissioned and operational, the 10MW Ranna Solar Power Project is set to significantly contribute to Sri Lanka’s renewable energy capacity. It will inject an additional 10 megawatts of green energy into the national grid, aligning with the country’s long-term goals for energy security and environmental sustainability. For Vidullanka PLC, this project marks a notable expansion of its domestic solar generation portfolio, reinforcing its position as a leader in sustainable power solutions within the country.
