2026–2030 Outlook

LankaBIZ View

Selective recovery rather than broad-based expansion

Sri Lanka’s ceramic and porcelain industry has a positive domestic demand backdrop as construction activity recovers. However, the sector remains exposed to intense import competition, excess capacity and high energy costs.

Export performance also remains below recent levels. The strongest strategy is therefore likely to be premiumisation rather than competing directly with large Asian producers on commodity pricing.

Premium porcelain, hospitality tableware, sanitaryware, design-led products, private-label manufacturing, export diversification and local raw-material beneficiation offer the strongest strategic opportunities.

Base Case: Construction demand improves gradually, imports remain aggressive and margins stay under pressure, while premium and export-oriented manufacturers outperform commodity producers.
